When making cold process soaps, I always end with spraying 99.9% isopropyl alcohol on top of my batches before they sit for the night and I cut into them. Why??
All because of soda ash, which is just an ashy film that can occur over the tops of your soaps. 🙄 It is caused by the unsaponified lye in the soap reacting to the natural carbon dioxide in the air. It is strictly cosmetic, doesn’t affect your soap or the properties of the soap at all, but it certainly is annoying!😩 Spraying the alcohol on top of the soap creates a barrier between the unsaponified lye and the air. 😌 I found that sometimes the alcohol helps, and sometimes it doesn’t help as much depending on the recipe. However I do choose to always spray it just in case!🙏

Notice how the center of this bar of soap looks a little darker than the outer edges😱
That is because this batch went through something called gel phase. Gel phase in soaping is when your batch of soap is going through the heating stage of saponification.🔥During this stage your soap can reach temperatures up to 180°F, causing the soap to heat up from the inside out. The center of your soap mold can begin to look gel like or translucent when it is heating up this much.🥵 It is not a bad thing for your soap to go through gel phase, in fact a lot of people prefer to force their soaps to go through gel phase! It can help make the colors of your soap be more vibrant as well as many other helpful things. A soap that has gone through gel phase does not affect the soaps properties whatsoever, it is purely cosmetic. 😊

I’ve been spending so much time in the sun lately…but never forget to wear my sunscreen!!☀️
It took me many years to understand the importance of wearing sunscreen everyday but I am sooo happy that I finally started. Apart from protecting your skin from the suns harmful UV rays, sunscreen helps prevent your skin from aging, skin cancer and discoloration.🤩
Maybe one of these days I’ll try making my own sunscreen!🤔🧴

Remember guys, you must use sodium hydroxide (lye) to make bars of soap! If you are ever using a bar of soap, it was made with lye. Without it, the oils in your recipe would just continue to stay oils, if no lye is added there can be no chemical change to turn it into soap 🤓

Lavender is one of the most popular and well known essential oils for its wonderful benefits!💜It promotes relaxation, plus it can seriously help with anxiety. Lavender is so powerful, it can help with fungal infections, allergies, depression, insomnia, eczema, nausea, even cramps.🤯
I’ll be using Hungarian lavender in an upcoming video…can you guess what recipe I’ll be using it in?

Sometimes I love to top my soaps with fresh flower pedals or botanicals, in this soap I’ve used calendula petals!🌼
Calendula has great antifungal and antimicrobial properties that help prevent infection and heal injuries to body tissues. It also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant components. Using flower petals and botanicals on top of my soaps doesn’t just make them look beautiful, but also brings amazing properties to the soap itself! 😄

Once a month I’ve been making it a point to go and get a facial, and my skin has never looked better!🧖♀️✨ They are so relaxing and have so many benefits like circulating 🩸 flow to help with puffiness, and helping you get that deep cleanse to help clear out any impurities. I would highly recommend going in for a monthly facial, your skin will thank you🥹
